Coastguards have issued a safety warning after a dog plunged to its death on Brean Down on Thursday (February 26th).
Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards were alerted after the dog tumbled down the steep cliffs while chasing a goat, but there was nothing they or the animal’s owners could do to help.
A Coastguard spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We advise dog owners to keep their pets well away from cliff edges and to keep them on a lead if possible.”
There have been several dog-related incidents on Brean Down in recent years. A greyhound was killed in a fall in March 2006, a pet was successfully rescued in August 2005, and a golden retriever was rescued in November 2007. (See links below)
