A Highbridge resident has been fined £200 for failing to clean up after his dog when it fouled a grassy area in Highbridge’s Apex Park.
The man has been prosecuted after work by Sedgemoor District Council’s Environmental Protection Unit.
Council spokeswoman Claire Faun told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The incident required the police to be called as the man refused to identify himself to Sedgemoor District Council’s Dog Warden after the offence was committed.”
The man represented himself in court before Sedgemoor Magistrates and pleaded not guilty to the offence, maintaining that it was not his dog that had fouled the area.
Mrs Faun added: “However, compelling evidence explained to the court from the dog warden proved that it was the man’s dog that was responsible for the offence. He was found guilty and given a conditional discharge and ordered to pay £200 costs to Sedgemoor District Council.”
“Sedgemoor District Council has a zero tolerance on dog fouling and any persons caught failing to remove their dog faeces from a public place will be challenged, resulting in a fine or prosecution.”
She added that the incident occurred last September but has only recently gone to court.
