Dog wardens stamp down on offending pet owners in Burnham area

Dog wardens are stamping down on pet owners who allow their animals to foul streets and community areas in the Burnham-On-Sea area.

They have just prosecuted a resident for failing to pick up after his pet at the Recreation Ground in Berrow – leaving the owner with a bill of £110, which includes £50 for the fine and £60 for the court fines.

The maximum penalty is £1000 for persistent offenders.

“The sight of dog’s mess in Sedgemoor’s parks, beaches and open spaces is offensive to many residents and visitors who look forward to walks in the park, on the beach or in the great outdoors,” said a council spokesman.

“That is why the Council takes fouling very seriously and will prosecute when there is sufficient evidence.”

He added: “Councillors and staff at Sedgemoor District Council get many, many complaints about dog fouling across the district.”
