A person in a ’distressed’ state was rescued from sea water in Burnham-On-Sea on Thursday evening (April 4th) following a major multi-agency search.
Two Burnham-On-Sea RNLI lifeboats, Coastguards and crews from BARB Search & Rescue were called to the jetty at around 8.15pm.
Lifeboat crews used two flares to illuminate the sea water in the fading light while the Coastguards and BARB’s water rescue team conducted a torch-lit search of the tideline and beach.
A Coastguard helicopter also flew in and used its search lights to scour the water around the jetty and Pavilion.
“A distressed person was successfully retrieved from the water by the lifeboats and brought back to the beach for treatment by paramedics before being taken to hospital,” confirmed a Coastguard spokesman.
