It might be thousands of miles away across the Big Pond, but Walt Disney World in Florida could soon be twinned with Burnham-On-Sea.
Four nominations have been put forward for the town to gain the title of ‘Walt Disney World’s UK Twinned Town’ as part of a competition that closed on Sunday (November 22nd).
Hugh Wood of Disney Destinations International explained: “Britain has an established tradition of twinned towns and co-operation with its European counterparts, and this is an incredible opportunity to be the UK’s first town ever to be twinned with Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.”
“We believe it is time to recognise the great values that make UK towns and villages special and with so many guests visiting Walt Disney World every year from the UK, we felt there was no better way to find that special town or village than by allowing the British public to nominate the places they are proud of.”
Disney UK spokeswoman Charlotte Brooks confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com on Friday that Burnham is among 400 UK towns to have been put forward.
Four entrants nominated Burnham by publishing photos, video and descriptions of the town on the Disney competition website.
One entrant says: “Every November we have the beautiful Carnival which brings light to the winter darkness, celebrates creativity and unifies our community.”
The winning location will be announced as having official Walt Disney World Twinned Town status later this year and one lucky person who submits the winning nomination will jet off to Walt Disney World in Florida with their family for the official twinning ceremony in the Magic Kingdom, pictured above.
