Dinghy scare prompts call-out for town’s lifeboat and Coastguards

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s marine rescue services were called to Brean on Sunday evening (June 26th) amid concerns for the welfare of several people in a dinghy.

A beach warden spotted a small inflatable floating out into the Bristol Channel on the falling tide at 6.15pm, prompting a call to Coastguards.

But the dinghy users managed to paddle the craft to safety and got back onto the shore before a Burnham lifeboat and Coastguards arrived.

“This was a false alarm with good intent. The beach warden did the right thing in alerting us as soon as there was any concern for the dinghy users,” a Coastguard spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
