Police probe suspicious overnight digger fires in the Burnham area

Burnham-On-Sea police are investigating two suspicious fires during the early hours of today (Friday) when construction diggers were damaged.

Fire crews were called to Bristol Road in East Brent at midnight after a digger was reported to be on fire. The vehicle was damped down by fire crews using two hose reel jets.

Crews were also called to Weston Road in Lympsham where another mini digger, involved in water mains excavations, was well alight in a field.

The blaze incolved one excavator and a mini digger, which were 75% percent destroyed by fire.

The fire was extinguished by fire crews using one compressed air foam systems jet and one hose reel jet.

The cause of both fires is under investigation by the Fire Service and Police and anyone with information should contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
