Digger rescued from Burnham-On-Sea Beach
10 July 2004

A JCB digger had to be rescued from Burnham-On-Sea Beach on Saturday July 10, 2004 when it became stuck in mud.

Building contractors working on new sea defences at the southern end of the town’s beach were driving out along the sands when they became stuck in soft sand and mud towards the foreshore.

As waves from the incoming tide edged closer, the concerned driver called for the assistance of another digger in the area, which managed to winch the vehicle to safety.

The rescue once again demonstrated the dangerous nature of Burnham’s mud, which even briefly trapped Burnham RNLI’s tractors earlier in the year. See here for more.
