Burnham-On-Sea diabetes group helps fund the cost of a child’s holiday

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s Burnbridge Diabetes Group have helped fund the cost of a child’s diabetes holiday by presenting a cheque for £200 to Musgrove Children’s Diabetes Department.

Stephen Willis, Children’s Diabetes Specialist Nurse, and Michelle Gardiner, Pediatric Diabetes Clinical Nurse Specialist, received a cheque for the amount during a special ceremony. Stephen is pictured with group member Emily Lang, Michelle, Vice Chair Ron Davison, Chair Miki Tilley, and group member Elaine Ambler.

Group Secretary Mike Lang told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Diabetes Childrens Holidays are invaluable to young diabetics. They are encouraged to self-manage their condition in the empathic company of other junior sufferers from the condition, which in the long run means they will suffer fewer side-effects and there is less strain on parents and carers.”

“We intend to help Musgrove with other value added projects in the future because the Taunton and Mid-Somerset Diabetes UK Groups have apparently closed down.”

Last year, the group sponsored the Burnham and District Lions Diabetes Screening programme at Tesco. Their main strategy is to provide support and self-help for local diabetes sufferers. The group’s next meeting is in the Chichester Close meeting room on Wednesday 16th November. Further details can be obtained by visiting website or by calling 01278 792784.
