Dementia day services at Berrow’s Mulberry Centre are to be scrapped in January 2019 as Somerset County Council’s contract comes to an end.
The day services are used by people across the Burnham-On-Sea area and are provided by Somerset NHS Partnership on behalf of the County Council in the Garden House at the Berrow centre.
A Somerset County Council spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Our contract for dementia day services across the county ends in January and, as with many of our care services, we are looking to provide support differently.”
“We want to move to more innovative support that promotes independence and involvement in the community; working with local groups and grass roots organisations funded through community grants.”
He added: “The needs of everyone who currently makes use of dementia day services, including those access through what is known as Garden House in the Mulberry Centre, are being assessed and those needs will continue be met, though in different ways.”
“There are lots of different, creative ways of doing this and no ‘one size fits all’ solution. We know change can be difficult and our conversations with people who use the current services, and their carers, are really important.”
There is no question about the future of the medical centre itself, confirm bosses.
