This deer briefly brought the centre of Highbridge to a standstill on Wednesday (May 2nd) when it gave police, residents and wildlife carers the run-around.
Police briefly closed Church Street to traffic shortly after 10am after the animal was seen dodging in between moving cars along the busy road.
But despite the best efforts of police officers and wildlife carers from Secret World to capture the animal, no-one was able to catch the swift-footed animal, which even appeared to stick out its tongue at Burnham-On-Sea.com’s photographer at one point, as pictured here!
“The deer almost caused an accident as it ran in between the cars along Church Street before leaping over several walls and running through people’s gardens,” eyewitness Jason Adams told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“The police and Secret World were called to try and catch it due to concern about its welfare and that of motorists, but no-one could catch it.”
“It gave everyone the run-around and eventually made its escape through Highbridge cemetry, jumping over an 8ft wall in the process, and was then not seen again!”
