Wildlife charity issues appeal after deer is killed in dog attack

-

The death of a deer by two dogs has this week prompted an urgent plea from wildlife carers in the Burnham-On-Sea area.

East Huntspill’s Secret World was called to a female roe deer near Cheddar earlier this week which had been attacked by Jack Russells, leaving it with fatal injuries.

Charity founder Pauline Kidner told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The cries from the injured animal were so blood curdling and loud that help soon arrived, but sadly the injuries to the deer were so severe that despite our best efforts we were unable to save her.”

Pauline added: “This is the second attack by dogs on wildlife in the last few days and with all the wet and now cold weather, we are bracing ourselves for more wildlife casualties, especially among birds of prey leading up to Christmas.”

She urged dog walkers to be aware of wildlife in the area when using the countryside.
