Injured deer gives birth to fawns at local wildlife centre

-

An injured deer which is in the care of Secret World Wildlife Centre in East Huntspill has given birth to two fawns.

The roe deer, which was injured in a road accident earlier this year, was brought to Secret World because of the centre’s experience in rearing the animals.

Carers said that the heavily pregnant animal would have been unlikely to survive without their help given its poor condition.

However, staff were delighted when the two cute fawns arrived.

Secret World’s Debbie O’Keefe told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Miraculously, the deer was in a poorly state, suffering from temporary blindness, but gave birth to her first fawn and with some assistance a second fawn was born a day later.”

“Sadly, one of the fawns has not survived, however both the mother and baby are both doing well. Without the help of Secret World both mum and her babies would have perished.”

The centre is currently caring for several fawns and the animals will be on show to the public this weekend (June 26th and 27th) when Secret World will be holding two open days from 10am-4pm.
