Burnham-On-Sea Scout leader charged over sex abuse allegations

A Burnham-On-Sea Scout leader who was arrested in connection with child sex abuse allegations has been formally charged this week.

David Burland, 53, of the 1st Burnham-On-Sea Scout Group, has been bailed to appear before Taunton Deane magistrates on 5th May.

He has been charged with 12 indecent assaults, 14 sexual assaults, four counts of gross indecency and six counts of inciting sexual activity.

The charges relate to alleged abuse of children under the age of 16. He also faces an indecent exposure charge.

The Scout Association has said Mr Burland was suspended from any form of contact with the movement as soon as the allegations were reported.

He has been involved in the Scout movement since the 1990s.
