Over £2,700 was raised when almost 200 people flocked to a successful darts fundraiser on Wednesday evening (November 27th) to see two of Britain’s top players in action.
Justin Pipe and Gary Anderson took part in an exhibition match at The Oaktree. Justin is currently number nine in the PDC order of merit while Gary is ranked at number 19.
Some of the audience members had a chance to play alongside their darting heroes in a series of pairs games to see if they could beat them.
New British Speedway Association rules being introduced in 2014 require all professional racing tracks across the UK to have safety fences to protect riders, hence the need to buy the new air fence at The Oaktree Arena, which is home to the Somerset Rebels.
“The total raised was a super £2748.22 which we are delighted about. This is a big boost to the Air Fence Fund and we are creeping ever closer to that final figure we need to secure racing at The Oaktree Arena in 2014,” organiser Jordan Jones, pictured with the two players, told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“We must also say a massive thank you to Justin Pipe and Gary Anderson for what they did in giving up their time to support our cause. They are two very down to earth gentlemen and were a pleasure to have at The Oaktree. On behalf of everybody here at the club we would like to wish the pair of them the best of luck for this coming weekend at Butlins in Minehead for the Cash Convertors 2013 Players Championship Finals.”
