Two Burnham-On-Sea residents have completed a cycle ride from the London Eye to the Eiffel Tower in Paris to raise money for Breast Cancer Care.
Marcus Medd and partner Louise Crew pedalled between the two cities over five days, raising around £1,300 in the process.
Louise has completed a challenge every year for the past 14 years to raise money for breast cancer charities, and has taken part in the Moonwalk, the London Marathon and the London to Brighton night cycle events.
Marcus told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We wanted to do something different this year, so looked at organised rides, but they seemed to cater for racers in Lycra more than riders of our pace!”
“So we mapped the route ourselves using the Avenue Verte, a cycle route between London and Paris developed in time for the Olympics, with a crossing from Newhaven to Dieppe.”
“The route tries not to use main roads and is a joy to ride all the way to Paris where it is very meandering and the locals find it ‘tres amusant’ to move the signs or remove them altogether so navigation was not easy!”
“We made the error of leaving too many miles to do on the last day – 71 mapped miles that turned out to be 78 miles including a few wrong turns, and 11 hours on the road.”
He added: “But we thoroughly enjoyed the challenge, and would like to thank all those that sponsored us.”
