A team of Burnham-On-Sea cyclists is attempting to break a world record by cycling 874 miles from John O’Groats to Land’s End in two days.
The team comprising of Tim Clark, Karl Burkett, Andy Cross and Ollie Taylor set off this morning (Friday) from the tip of Scotland.
They are attempting to beat their own record time, 52 hours and 12 minutes, which Burnham-On-Sea.com reported here was set a year ago.
Speaking to Burnham-On-Sea.com, Karl said: “We are are off again! Burnham’s own cycling team, supported by Burnham Lions Club, is chasing world records.”
“Our aim is to beat our previous world record time of 52 hours and 12 minutes which was done in terrible windy conditions.”
“If it’s half as good weather this time, we could be on for the sub 48 hours time.”
They are riding as a relay team on an individual basis – so the first man will ride an 80km leg, then the second will ride the same and so on, and there is only ever one rider on the road at any one time.
Earlier this month, the group is pictured below cycling a static fundraising cycle event at Sanders Garden World in Brent Knoll, raising £260 for Clic Sargent.
