Full house at Burnham’s Princess Hall for ‘Songs from Stage and Film’
Burnham-On-Sea theatre group Curtain Call attracted a full house at the town’s Princess Hall on Saturday July 9th when it performed a foot-tapping line-up of songs from stage and film.
In front of a capacity audience, which included Burnham’s Mayor and Mayoress, Eric and Gillian Gill, the group performed 27 top songs in aid of the National Blind Children’s Society.
The successful evening was overseen by Curtain Call’s Principal, Patricia Ham. It began with the humorous Another Openin’, Another Show from Kiss Me Kate, sung by Bethany and Annabel Criddle, alongside the Adult Musical Theatre Group of Natalie Babajee, David Clark, Terri Davies, Jim Gregory, David Neville, Jean Neville, Jane Quick, Sarah Quick and Alex Turco.
Sparkling Diamonds from Moulin Rouge was next up, sung by The Senior Musical Theatre Group, which was made up of Emma-Marie Francis, Ben Hazell, Danielle Keirle, Michelle Kidner, Danielle Muirhead, Heather Patterson and Lois Sankey.
The Junior Musical Threatre Group, comprising Alison Bennett, Gabby Giovanni, Jemma Hazell and Lydia Williams, gave a great performance of Hard Knock Life from Annie. This was followed up by a superb duet from Jemma Hazell and David Neville performing Together At Last, also from Annie.
Terri Davies’ performance of Once Upon A Dream from Jekyll & Hyde was a stand-out piece, while Seasons Of Love from Rent – sung by The Senior Musical Theatre Group – was also well received by the audience.
Alex Turco injected a huge amount of energy into his upbeat performance of Sunset Blvd and Jessica Shinner’s Under The Sea from The Little Mermaid also attracted loud applause.
You’ve Got A Friend In Me from Ruby set feet tapping across the building when it was performed by the Junior Dancers group (Evie Andrews, Melissa Chandler and Jemma Hazell) and the Senior Dancers group (Ben Hazell, Becky Twemlow and Beckie Webb).
The Junior Drama Group, comprising Evie Andrews, Annabel Criddle, Bethany Criddle, Ben Hazell, Jemma Hazell, Gabby Giovanni and Lydia Williams, performed several superb numbers.
Numerous well-known songs from Oklahoma, Thoroughly Modern Mille, Dirty Dancing, Les Mis, Bugsy Malone, Scarlet Pimpernel, Rocky, Sweet Charity, My Fair Lady, 42nd Street, Sister Act, The Boyfriend, Jekyll and Hyde also featured.
And the evening came to a close with the superb Fame, sung by Lydia Williams and the senior musical theatre group, followed by No Business Like Show Business by the full company.
The evening’s creative team were Patricia Ham, Victoria Roberts and Amanda Graham. Sound was overseen by Michael Marshall and stage lighting by Janet Newton. The evening’s lead sponsor was Positive Wealth Creation Ltd.
