Beavers and Cubs complete Burnham to Berrow sponsored walk

-

Cubs and Beavers from 1st Berrow Scout Group took part in a sponsored walk this week to help raise funds for new equipment.

Around 25 children took part in the walk, as well as parents and helpers, along the beach from Berrow to Burnham-On-Sea.

Linda Hamilton, from Berrow Scout Group, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “They all did really well to walk such a distance. The weather was not that warm but at least it did stay dry. All of them completed the walk, even the youngest were determined to finish.”

“We are grateful for the all the support from our volunteer adults and parents in making sure that events like this are a success.”

Beavers and Cubs undertake a weekly programme of fun and adventure that allows the youngsters to have the opportunity to learn new life-skills along with teamwork and friendship.

Currently there is an urgent need is for more adult leadership and help, especially within the Beaver colony, and for behind-the-scenes work too. No experience is necessary as a training programme is in place. The only requirement is that you are above 18 years of age and that you have an occasional hour to spare.

Linda Hamilton, from Berrow Scout Group, told Burnham-On-Sea.com “Berrow Scout Group simply would not exist without the skills and enthusiasm of our adult volunteers. We urgently need some adults to step forward and help with our weekly sessions. Whether you can spare a hour a week or can help occasionally, we need you to help continue the exciting programme we have planned and to give youngsters the chance to learn new skills and develop new friendships.”

“No experience is necessary as a training programme is in place. The only requirement is that you are above 18 years of age and that you have an occasional hour to spare and lots of enthusiasm. We are looking for adult leaders and helpers but there are other roles for people as well.”

The Scout Association strives to help these youngsters to become worthy, caring and considerate of their fellows and their environment. For youngster or adult recruitment, contact Linda Hamilton on 01278 782521 or paddita8@aol.com
