Burnham-On-Sea Cricket Club celebrates 150th anniversary

-

Burnham-On-Sea Cricket Club held a very special celebration on Sunday afternoon (June 12th) when it marked its 150th anniversary.

The club, based at Burnham’s BASC ground, held a celebratory lunch and tea for over 100 former players – some of whom are now well into their 80s.

Burnham’s Mayor and Mayoress, Michael and Maria Clarke, were among the special guests at Sunday’s event.

Original scorecards from the club’s archives dating back over the past 15 decades were on show, along with photos and other memorabilia.

“We are celebrating the fact that the club was founded in June 1861 by holding some special events this year,” the club’s Jim Bloodworth told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“In addition to the tea, a triangular 20/20 series of matches featuring Burnham Cricket Club against the very same clubs that we played in that first year, namely North Petherton CC and Weston Super Mare CC, is also to be played.”
