A ceremony has been held to mark Burnham-On-Sea’s Marine Cove Gardens being handed its first ever Green Flag Award.
The seafront gardens – which re-opened last year following a major £360,000 four-year refurbishment project part-funded by the National Lottery – formally received the award on Friday (July 20th).
Cllr Gill Slocombe, Chairman of Sedgemoor District, handed over the flag during a celebratory ceremony at the gardens attended by supporters and members of the Friends of Marine Cove, as pictured.
The Green Flag Award scheme is overseen by Keep Britain Tidy. The flags are given only to well-managed, high-quality green spaces that are accessible to the public.
Highbridge’s Apex Park has also received the news this week that it has been awarded a Green Flag for a sixth year running.
Sedgemoor District Council spokeswoman Claire Faun told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It is with thanks to Sedgemoor’s Parks Officers, Dog Wardens, its Clean Surroundings Team as well as the support from the Friends of Marine Cove Gardens and Friends of Apex Park that both parks are in tip top condition for their wide range of visitors.”
“The awards are a sign to visitors that the parks are well-maintained and managed, with excellent facilities.”
