Sedgemoor Magistrates Court has heard how 59 year-old Stephen James Whild, from Stoddens Road, admitted six charges of theft after taking thousands of pounds from Highbridge-based CJK Vehicle Repairs by tampering with invoices.
He admitted theft from an employee between January and June of this year, totalling over £500, and also had 61 other offences taken into consideration.
Mr Whild’s job involved raising customer invoices and prosecutor Sarah Rhodes said one of the director’s suspicions had been raised when several cheques were found not to be recorded in the system. The directors later found a total of 60 invoices were not in the firm’s financial system, amounting to £4,153. The customers had paid in cash.
Mr Whild admitted theft and was dismissed immediately. The thefts came despite a previously unblemished career and followed his partner losing her job.
Magistrates may give him a jail sentence or a community order when he appears for sentencing on Monday (December 20th).
