Burnham charity shops targeted with fake Scottish £20 notes
A warning has been issued to shoppers and traders in Burnham-On-Sea this week to be on the look out for counterfeit bank notes.
It comes after several fake Scottish £20 pound notes were used at charity shops in the town, leaving them out of pocket.
One shop affected was Burnham’s RSPCA charity shop in the High Street. Linda Britton, its Shop Supervisor, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “When I went to the bank I was told that a Scottish twenty pound note spent in our shop was a fake.”
“I also learned that two other charity shops have also received fake Scottish twenty pound notes. It is very disappointing that people feel they have to target charity shops with these notes.”
She added: “My volunteers and I work very hard to sell items that the public have kindly donated to raise money for the Brent Knoll animal centre. We will no longer be accepting Scottish notes as a precaution.”
Shoppers and traders have been asked to check carefully the paper and colouring of the notes.
It comes just days after a warning was issued about £5 coins worth 25p being used in the town, as we reported here.
