Council’s Clean Surroundings team keep Burnham’s streets tidy during lockdown

-

Whilst the vast majority of Sedgemoor District Council’s staff are working from home, the authority’s Clean Surroundings Team are working hard in the Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge area to ensure it is kept tidy and clean.

The team is carrying out a wide range of tasks despite the Coronavirus lockdown to keep the Burnham area safe and clean.

Council spokeswoman Claire Faun told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Whilst some of our Clean Surroundings Team have be redeployed to other work, such as delivering good parcels to some of our vulnerable residents; other team members are continuing to keep litter and dog waste bins empty, investigating fly tips on public ground and removing them; mowing verges to make sure that they don’t obscure drivers’ visibility of roads and junctions.”

“The team are also helping out the Somerset Waste Partnership with collection of the massive amount of cardboard which has been generated with the rise of on-line deliveries.”

She adds: “The Clean surroundings team are also responsible for many other duties such as Building Cleaning/caretaking at communal areas and care facilities for Homes in Sedgemoor so that the communal areas for some of our more vulnerable residents are safe; Public Convenience cleaning; Specialist mowing in large parks; Various grass cutting around the area, avoiding known-about wildflower areas; and emergency work for trees.”

“Due to the lockdown, the tree-planting schedule has not started, as newly-planted trees need a lot of TLC and watering during their first few months; this is just not possible with reduced staff numbers due to redeployment or illness.”
