Council tenants in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge are being invited to express their views about a new management organisation that has been set up to oversee their homes.
A series of meetings and displays are to be held in coming days to give tenants a chance to air their views about the Homes in Sedgemoor initiative.
“In 2003, the government told all councils they had to plan to make sure all homes met the ‘decent homes standard’ by 2010. When Sedgemoor looked at this, it was realised that it would cost in the region of £47.7 million to do this,” explained district council spokeswoman Claire Faun.
“The council could not afford this from the rent monies coming in, so alternative ways were considered on how to manage and maintain the housing service. After consulting with tenants, it was decided to create an Arms Length Management Organisation called Homes in Sedgemoor,” she said.
The Council is therefore holding a series of meetings across the two towns in the coming days and also telephoning some tenants to ask for their opinions.
Displays will also be held between September 18th-22nd at Burnham Pool and Alpha House in Market Street, Highbridge to provide householders with the opportunity to comment.
