Council tax bills in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge will rise by less than 20p a week after town councillors this week approved a small increase for the coming year.
For 2010-11, the town council’s precept demand to Sedgemoor District Council will be £416,472, which means that of the Council tax demand local residents will receive, the Town Council’s share for the year will be £60.99 for an average Band D property.
Eileen Shaw, Clerk to Burnham and Highbridge Town council, told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Monday: “This equates to an increase of £9.51 for the year or less than 20 pence per week.”
“In arriving at the figure for 2010/11, members of the Town Council took several factors into account, including the feedback from local residents at to what services they value, and also made a provision to enable to the Town Council to have meaningful discussions with Sedgemoor District Council and other authorities on partnership working to ensure that the level of services valued by residents is retained as far as possible.”
The county council announced last month that its portion of the council tax will not be increasing in the coming year.
