£10,000 boost to Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge community groups

Almost £10,000 was awarded to local community groups in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge this week by the Town Council.

Members of Burnham and Highbridge Town Council’s Policy and Finance Committee discussed several applications at its latest meeting and approved several of the bids.

Burnham’s Men’s Shed project, also known as Boshed, received £995.67 towards running costs and training visitors in practical skills at its base at Morland Hall in Highbridge.

Highbridge Youth Provision Networking Group received a £350 grant for its work in providing support to young people in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge.

SPARK in Somerset was granted £1,000 to recruit a community support worker who will be in Sedgemoor for one day a week to offer support to people in crisis.

And Burnham’s Chamber of Trade secured a £4,500 grant towards the costs of installating the Christmas lights in the town.

The Zone Youth Club, based at the Bay Centre on Cassis Close secured a £3,500 grant towards funding projects for young people to learn new skills, as we reported here.

Councillors deferred an application from Somewhere House in Burnham-On-Sea for £2,500 towards running costs and drug and alcohol rehabilitation projects until a representative of the group can attend a future meeting to give more information.

The grants are subject to the approval of the full Town Council at its meeting in September.
