A Highbridge pensioner who died in a car accident in Cornwall on Monday night (June 21st) has been named by police.
Margaret Sumpter, 83, was travelling in a silver Vauxhall Corsa when its 88 year-old driver lost control and ploughed into a wall at Dodbrook, near Millbrook.
Both elderly occupants were taken to Derriford Hospital following the crash at 7.46pm, but around five hours later police say the lady, who was travelling in a front seat, died.
Devon and Corwall Police appealed for witnesses who either saw the incident or remember seeing the vehicle shortly before it to contact them.
Police said that no other vehicle had been involved in the accident and added that the cause of the incident was not yet known.
“An investigation into what happened is underway and we would urge anyone who saw anything that can help with the enquiry to contact us on 08452 777444, quoting police log 953 210610,” said a spokesman.
