Continental market set to be held during Burnham’s carnival weekend

-

An open-air continental market looks set to return to Burnham-On-Sea this winter – during the town’s popular carnival weekend.

Proposals unveiled this week by Town Centre Manager Anne-Marie Spalding indicate that the outdoor market will be held on Sunday November 5th, the same day as the popular beach firework display and 24 hours before the carnival.

Burnham’s Town Improvements Committee gave its backing to the proposal on Tuesday evening (September 19th), along with John Edwards, chairman of the Burnham-On-Sea Chamber of Trade, which represents shops in the town.

A three-day continental market held during July – when foods and crafts were on sale – was widely seen as having been a success, attracting plenty of visitors into Burnham.

Meanwhile, Burnham’s High Street farmers markets will continue right up until Christmas, it was confirmed this week. Events are scheduled for September 29th, October 27th, November 24th and December 22nd. The markets will then take a winter break and return next March.
