A pioneering scheme that allows magistrates ask offenders to carry out community work, instead of going to prison, has this week been put to good use at Highbridge’s Apex Park.
Members of the ‘Community Payback Team’ have been helping Sedgemoor District Council refurbish the park’s information boards, waymarker posts, bollards and entrance gates – as pictured here.
Other work recently undertaken by offenders includes the refurbishment of benches, graffiti removal, and litter-picking.
Tony Turner, Operations Manager of Sedgemoor’s Clean Surroundings team, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The Community Payback Team makes a valuable contribution to Sedgemoor District Council by helping improve facilities for residents and visitors.”
