New community garden in Burnham-On-Sea set to be opened today

-

A project to create a new community garden in Burnham-On-Sea to encourage youngsters to grow healthy food has been completed – with the new facilities set to open on Tuesday (May 28th).

A disused area of land at the rear of the Burnham Area Youth Centre in Cassis Close has been transformed into the new facilities by Burnham Dreamscheme.

“After nearly two years in the planning, work began in January. We are delighted that the garden is now complete and ready to be opened,” Dreamscheme leader John Alexander told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

The garden will be officially opened by Mayor Martin Cox at 1pm after which the young members of the Dreamscheme will be planting up 30 hanging baskets which will later be given to Frith House care home.

John added: “Burnham Dreamscheme would like to thank several organisations and individuals for their support – Bowmer and Kirkland in parntership with Tesco, Burnham and Highbridge Town Council, County Councillor Peter Burridge-Clayton, Sedgemoor District Council, Fibreweb, Sanders Garden World, Home Hardware, G H Tyres, Inspector Roger Tolley, Sgt Ian Kennett, BARB, Norman Loveridge and Neil, Ian Jefferies and the Dreamscheme team Jacqui, Jo and Jonathan.”
