Dozens of residents have rallied together to clean up Burnham-On-Sea’s BASC Ground playing fields after a group of travellers left a trail of rubbish there when they left this week.
Over 60 people took part in the community clean-up at the BASC playing fields on Thursday evening (June 16th), removing piles of rubbish, dogs mess and other waste left strewn across the site.
“Everyone at BASC is hugely grateful to the community for their support over the past week,” Pete Lewis, BASC Chairman, told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“We had a fantastic turnout of 60 volunteers from many of the clubs based here plus the Scouts, the car boot organisers, and the wider community.”
“The site is now looking great again and we’re back to normal.”
Paul Stewart, who runs Burnham’s Saturday car boot sales at the BASC Ground, said this weekend’s event will be going ahead as planned.
“I’m delighted to say that the car boot sale will return as normal this Saturday – the site is now back to normal – and I would like to thank everyone who helped the clean-up. The car boot sale returns 12-4pm this Saturday.”
Meanwhile, a group of separate travellers remains in Burnham’s Pier Street Car Park, which is owned by Sedgemoor District Council. The authority has begun action to get them moved.
