Local people interested in joining Brean’s award-winning pantomime society The Coastline Players are being invited to attend a read-through today (Tuesday) of their 2015 production Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves.
Following its well-received 2014 performance of Peter Piper in February, pictured here, the group is ready to launch themselves into preparations for their next show, and auditions are just around the corner.
“The local society boasts talented members from all walks of life, and of ages from tots to recycled teenagers!” said the group’s Clare Hunter.
“The show promises to have lots of humour, which we love as much as the audiences. It will also deliver action, romance, a dancing camel, and a great mix of music from old classics, musical theatre treasures to modern chart hits!”
This year the production will be produced/directed by Anne and Patrick Allen, assisted by choreographer and vocal coach Clare Hunter. After
After a successful show in 2013 with Snow White, which won several awards at the Somerset Fellowship of Drama’s Cinderella Awards, including the trophy for best village pantomime, the production team are thrilled to be back together for Ali Baba.
Clare added: “Due to work commitments, I wasn’t able to be part of last year’s production but instead I enjoyed watching the show, but it made me realise how much I’d missed it and now I can’t wait to get back onboard with the society who are a very talented bunch. They are not only co-performers but friends.”
There will be a read through of the show to give members a chance to see what the show will be like and to see if there is a specific part they may like to audition for.
The read through will take place on 27th May at 7.30pm at Brean Village Hall. Auditions will take place on Thursday 5th June at 7.30pm also at the village hall.
“We would love to see anyone on 27th that is interested in joining the society as a performer or even as a social member – can you sew? Would you be interested in a ‘behind the scenes’ role? We’d love to see you all there, no pressure, come along to the read through, have a cuppa and a chat and see if you’d fit in with our friendly group.”
“Pantomime has been a a huge part of my life, you get a real sense of achievement when the final performance falls into place, and you become part of a pantomime family.”
