Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards were called to FIVE incidents in 24 hours during their busiest weekend of the year so far.
On Saturday, the team were called to help people in difficulty on the mudflats at Brean and Weston and also led a three-hour search for a missing person between Burnham and Brean Down.
Then, on Sunday afternoon, the Coastguard team also investigated several reports of cries for help being heard by walkers on Brean Down.
A full search of the northern slopes of Brean Down and part of the River Axe estuary was carried out, assisted by lifeboats from Weston, but no-one was found.
Burnham Coastguard Officer Steve Bird told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It has been a very busy weekend for us, reflecting the good weather and large number of visitors on beaches in the area.”
“All five calls were made with good intent – and we would always urge people to dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard if they have any suspicion of someone being in difficulty.”
As first reported by Burnham-On-Sea.com on Saturday morning, the team successfully found a missing man following a major search operation involving 16 people, including the volunteer team from BARB.
On Saturday afternoon, they were called to back up Weston Coastguards on a mud rescue and, whilst there, were called to watch over two more people getting themselves out of difficulty. The team was then tasked to Brean beach for another report of people in difficulty in the mud but were stood down en route.
