Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards called to ‘people in difficulty’ at Brean

-

Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards were called out to investigate reports of several persons in difficulty on Brean Down on Thursday evening (August 24th).

They were called out just before 9pm after a concerned member of the public made a 999 call asking for help.

“They had spotted some torch lights on the South side of Brean Down. With darkness rolling in quickly they were concerned for their safety,” said a Burnham Coastguard spokesman on Facebook.

“As the team progressed to scene, the first informant kept an eye on the lights for any changes. Once we arrived at their location the first informant pointed out where the lights were, and by then they had made their way up to the top of the Down and were walking along the top.”

It’s thought they were either climbers or anglers, who are often spotted at all times of the day.

“The first informant did the right thing in calling. From their position it is easy to think someone is in difficulty and the person did the right thing in calling.”

“As always it is better to be safe than sorry and we are happy to attend to ensure everything is OK.”
