Coastguards called to Berrow amid concern for people on mudflats

-

Concern for the welfare of a group of four people seen far out on the mudflats on Berrow beach led to a call-out for Burnham Coastguards and BARB this week.

A beach walker spotted the group over a mile from the shore on Tuesday afternoon (February 18th).

BARB’s Spirit Of Lelaina hovercraft was launched from Burnham at the request of Coastguards.

A Burnham Coastguard spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The group of people in the mud turned out to be a beach survey team who were not in difficulty. It was therefore a false alarm with good intent, but the walker did the right thing in alerting us – we would always prefer to be called out when there are any concerns for the welfare of people along out coastline.”
