Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards helped a beach walker on Wednesday (March 14th) after she injured her foot in a muddy fall on the town’s beach.
Coastguards were called to Burnham beach just after 11am when the lady was reported by a local resident to be in difficulty.
She and her partner had been walking along the beach, exploring the lower lighthouse, when they strayed into some shallow exposed mud.
As the lady took a step forward, her foot became briefly stuck – just enough to knock her off balance, and twist her ankle round.
The sharp pain caused her to fall over into the mud. Her partner managed to get her back to her feet and she then hobbled to the hard standing, but a local resident called 999 and asked for the Coastguard since the lady was in pain and limping slowly back along the beach towards their B&B.
A Coastguard spokesman added: “When we caught up with them they were near the Pier, and after a quick assessment of the injury we decided to request an Ambulance. We helped the lady into our Coastguard vehicle and took her to a more accessible location for transferring.”
“The Ambulance arrived in good time and we handed her over to their care.”
“A big thank you to the person who called it in, they were definitely in need of assistance. The couple did say how grateful they were to them, and that they didn’t know about the Coastguards so didn’t call for help.”
