Coastguards from across the UK gathered in Burnham-On-Sea on Saturday (March 31st) for the annual general meeting of the national Coastguard Association.
The 35th AGM was held at the Clarence Hotel on Burnham seafront and was attended by over 30 representatives, who included the UK’s Chief Coastguard Rod Johnson.
Afterwards, Mr Johnson was given a tour of Burnham Coastguard station and BARB’s HQ where he chatted with crewmembers and visited the rescue hovercrafts.
Burnham Coastguard Ian Jefferies, who is the organisation’s central secretary, said: “It was a very successful day. Rod Johnson showed a great deal of support and interest in our work and he thanked everyone for their hospitality.”
In a post on Facebook afterwards, Mr Johnson said of the close working between Burnham Coastguard and BARB: “The way that these teams live and work together is a fine example of the UKSAR (UK search and rescue) organisation at its best. Well done!”
