Hundreds of extra coach visitors are set to visit Burnham-On-Sea in a boost for the town centre, it has been announced this week.
Eight coach companies have been signed up by Burnham’s ‘Project Coach’, overseen by Burnham-On-Sea Chamber of Trade and BIARS (Burnham Information and Rescue Support), which runs the town’s tourist information centre.
David Urquart Travel of Scotland will visit Burnham-On-Sea several times this Spring and Summer, and other firms include Phil Anslow Coaches, Yeomans Travel and Edwards alongside other frequent visitors.
“It’s fantastic news that we have encouraged these extra coach tours into Burnham,” said Burnham’s Coach Destination Manager Les Barber, who led the negotiations.
“Burnham is moving from being a brief stopping point for tea breaks to a destination for coach travellers, with several operators now offering half-day excursions into Burnham which is great for our economy,” Les told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
‘Project Coach’ was re-started in 2016 by Burnham-On-Sea Chamber of Trade and BIARS with the backing of local businesses, Burnham and Highbridge Town Council and the Hinkley Tourism Action Partnership (HTAP).
It aims to encourage coach companies to visit Burnham and attract more visitors to the town centre.
Burnham won the coveted title of ‘UK Coach Friendly Destination of the Year’ at the 2016 National Coach Tourism Awards.
