Burnham’s Mayor cut a ribbon to officially open a £215,000 extension at Burnham-On-Sea’s St Andrews Primary School on Monday (July 15th).
The new classroom at the school in Dunstan Road will provide space for 30 extra students.
Mayor Martin Cox was the special guest at the ceremony alongside headteacher Gavin Morris and staff plus Rachel Collins of Somerset County Council, site manager Chris Lowden and Darryl Mitchard of building contractors Melhuish and Saunders.
Gavin Morris told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The finished classroom has received high praise and compliments from across the community; we simply could not be more pleased.”
“Somerset County Council have liaised excellently with us, and the architect and the contractors, Melhuish and Saunders, have done a magnificent job.”
“They completed the build within the timeframe and worked closely with the school at all times.”
Somerset County Council says it has invested £5m in each of the past two years to improve the condition of school buildings across the county and cater for growing pupil numbers.
