Visit Britain, the national tourism agency, has given the Royal Clarence on The Esplanade a sought-after three stars in the inns category following an inspection in July.
Owners Joanne and Graham Townley, pictured, said the news is a “wonderful reward” for several years of work modernising the property.
“We are the only hotel in Burnham to have been rated by Visit Britain, so we are delighted by this,” Joanne told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“The hotel’s rooms and facilities have all been upgraded since we took it over two and a half years ago, so this is a wonderful way for all that work to be rewarded.”
The Royal Clarence Hotel dates back to 1796 and was the first hotel built in Burnham-On-Sea.
