Burnham-On-Sea hotel boss: Hinkley decision is fantastic for the town

-

The owner of a seafront hotel in Burnham-On-Sea has welcomed the news that the £18bn Hinkley Point C project has been given final approval this week.

The Royal Clarence Hotel’s Paul Chatwin told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The long-awaited final decision on Hinkley Point is fantastic news for Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge – it will bring large numbers of people (and money) into this area.”

“Accommodation providers such as ourselves will undoubtedly see the greatest benefits. Last year, we took the decision to invest £50,000 in our brand new Courtyard Bar within the hotel, which now allows us to utilise the old bar area to spend a further £150,000 to construct 6 additional en-suite guest rooms.”

“I would hope to see most of that money being awarded to building contractors within this area.”

He added: “The Royal Clarence Hotel has expanded from 14 guest rooms three years ago to 26 en-suite rooms by 2017 – and we still need more to cope with the existing demand.”

“Of course, Hinkley Point is a huge opportunity for other businesses within the area too.”

He added that if any food or activity-based businesses would like to partner with the hotel to attract mutual custom to the town then he invites them to get in touch.
