Delighted staff at a seafront restaurant in Burnham-On-Sea are celebrating this week after receiving a sought-after five star rating from Sedgemoor District Council’s Food Safety Team.
The Royal Clarence Hotel’s downstairs dining area has been awarded a top rating in the council’s latest ‘Somerset Food Scores’ survey.
Hundreds of food premises across the district are inspected on a regular basis, but few receive the top five star rating.
Royal Clarence Hotel owner Joanne Townley told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’re absolutely delighted to have achieved five stars. It’s very rewarding after all the hard work that has gone in over the last few years.”
‘Somerset Food Scores’ allows customers to see how schools, hospitals, sandwich bars and restaurants comply with food hygiene regulations. Environmental Health Officers are required to give a rating at every food inspection on how well the food premises complies with legal requirements, cleanliness and structure. The ratings then prescribe how many stars are achieved with the top rating showing it fully complies with hygiene regulations.
Several other food businesses in Burnham have also scored the maximum five stars this year, including Brunel Care, Superchips, Burnham Hospital, the Battered Fryer, the Mitre restaurant, Bayview Cafe, Sarah’s Pantry and Greggs Bakery.
