Two motorists in Burnham-On-Sea had their vehicles clamped and were issued with hefty fines on Thursday (May 27th) after leaving their vehicles illegally parked outside the town’s lifeboat station.
The owners of this van and a car were given fines of over £100 after parking at the rear of Morrisons supermarket, just off Pier Street.
The latest ‘clampdown’ has prompted a fresh warning about the dangers of blocking the lifeboat station’s entrance in Pier Street.
Mike Lang, Burnham RNLI spokesman, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “People do not realise that the combined size of the tractor and lifeboat trailer is 48 feet long, and 11 feet wide, and that our crew need a clear road to safely leave the compound.”
“I urge members of the public to take into account that we are an emergency service and leave us room as a matter of courtesy.”
Signs in the street outside the RNLI station clearly warn vehicle owners that they risk fines, clamping and even being towed away if they park on the double yellow lines.
