Burnham-On-Sea’s Ritz Cinema could soon be expanded with a new £150,000 third screen to show even more films and entertainment.
The popular cinema in Victoria Street is this month celebrating its tenth anniversary under the ownership of Pat and Beryl Scott, who have also revealed the proposals to add a new 63-seat screen to the building.
“We’d like to further widen the range of films and live entertainment we offer, so a new third cinema screen at the back of the building behind our current two screens would be ideal,” Pat told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
Early plans have been drawn up by a local architect, as pictured below, and the proposals are still being developed but if permission is granted by the local authority, then the expansion of the cinema could be completed next year.
“The third auditorium will seat 63 people in comfort and will cost around £150,000. It will include a new projection room plus a £50,000 projector so would be a big investment.”
“The extra screen will give us more flexibility in programming to allow us to carry on showing movies that are still popular after their first fortnight’s screenings. We also hope to show more of the live music and opera events which launched earlier this year and are proving so popular.”
On September 17th it will be exactly ten years since Pat and Beryl re-opened The Ritz Cinema.
“It has been a superb decade and we thank all our loyal customers for their wonderful support,” said Pat.
