Burnham-On-Sea’s Ritz Cinema is set to be expanded with a new £150,000 third screen this year, its owners have confirmed this week.
The popular cinema in Victoria Street – which celebrated its tenth anniversary last year under the ownership of Pat and Beryl Scott – will get a new 63-seat screen.
The new facilities, first reported here last year, will enable the cinema to show more films and live entertainment.
“We’re currently finalising the plans and hope to submit them to the council in February,” Pat told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“If all goes well, we hope to start the building work later in the Spring and open the new screen this summer.”
“We’d like to further widen the range of films and live entertainment we offer, so a new third cinema screen at the back of our current building will be ideal.”
The third auditorium could seat up to 63 people in comfort and will cost around £150,000. It will include a new projection room with a £50,000 projector.
The cinema is also pushing ahead with its screening of live entertainment events. It will be screening live Shakespeare plays in February, direct from Stratford.
