Six people have been arrested as Burnham-On-Sea Police investigate the murder of Joseph Pearce in the town earlier this week.
A murder probe was launched after the death in Churchill Close, just off Worston Lane, shortly before midnight on Monday (July 10th). Joseph Pearce, 40, pictured, from Burnham-On-Sea, died at the scene.
Two men, aged 21 and 43, who were arrested on suspicion of murder remain in custody, Avon and Somerset Police said. A 54-year-old woman has been released while inquiries continue and three others were released without charge.
A post-mortem examination has been carried out by a Home Office pathologist and concluded he died from a single stab wound.
Officers from the Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT) are now leading the enquiry into his death.
Detective Chief Inspector James Riccio, from MCIT, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We continue to offer support to Joseph’s family during what is clearly a difficult time for them.”
“We are leaving no stone unturned in our quest to established the full circumstances behind this horrific crime and are keeping the family updated with the progress of our enquiry.”
He added: “In total we have now arrested three men and three women in connection with our investigation.”
“Specialist crime scene investigators continue to examine the scene and the cordon around Churchill Close remains in place while their enquiries are completed.”
“We’d like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding while we carry out our work and are grateful for their co-operation.”
