Highbridge’s Churchfield Church School has won the south west regional heat of an award designed to celebrate the essence of good buildings.
The building was entered into the Best Educational Building category in the South West LABC (Local Authority Building Control) Awards for Building Excellence.
The project was nominated by Sedgemoor District Council’s Building Control Officer, Paul Grummett, who oversaw the building control process on the site.
Somerset County Council is also a Finalist for Best Customer Partnership for the work carried out between Sedgemoor, Taunton Deane and Somerset County Council to bring this project to fruition.
More than 360 people from across the south west were among those who gathered in Plymouth to hear the named of the 13 winning projects announced.
“The LABC Building Excellence Awards give us a great opportunity to encourage better building practices by acknowledging and rewarding outstanding achievement,” said south west regional chair David Allen.
“It is important to celebrate the hard work and results that can be achieved through collaborative working of designers, contractors and clients with their local authority building control teams.”
The building now goes forward to the national finals, to be held in London on November 11th.
