Step back in time to the year 1315 at Burnham church this Sunday!

-

The congregation at Burnham-On-Sea’s St Andrew’s Church will be invited to go back in time this Sunday (May 24th).

As part of the 700th Anniversary celebrations of St Andrew’s, a special service will be held at 10am when the the clergy will be re-enacting morning worship as it would have been experienced in the year 1315.

Rev Graham Witts, Vicar of St Andrew’s, explained: “We are creating morning worship from the year 1315, and this is based on a service from a prayer book of Salisbury Cathedral, called the ‘Sarum Rite’.”

“We are making one or two consessions to the modern worshipper by using the service in English rather than Latin, and the congregation will be allowed to sit rather than stand.”

“We shall be singing hymns from the seven centuries that St Andrew’s has stood on the seafront and formed part of the iconic landscape with its leaning tower.”

The service begins at 10am and all will be welcome to come along and share in the event.
