-

The efforts of local residents in decorating their homes with festive lights over the Christmas period were recognised on Monday (January 8th) at an award ceremony.

Trophies and certificates were handed over to the winners of Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge Town Council’s annual Christmas Lights competition during a special presentation in Jaycroft Road, pictured above.

Town councillors Pat Burge, Peter Clayton and Dennis Davey, who judged this year’s competition, gave out the awards.

In Burnham, the winners were Mr and Mrs Nick Gardener of 3 Trinity Close, while the runner-up was Miss Sally Cornish of 40 Love Lane and the prize for best Burnham group entry went to Mr and Mrs Radford of 17 Rosewood Avenue and Mr and Mrs Haldenby of 1 Ashcott Place.

In Highbridge, the winner was Mr and Mrs Bale of 54 Poplar Estate, while the runner-up was Mr and Mrs Bowcott of 25 Smith Way. The award for best Highbridge group entry went to Mr and Mrs Kennett and Mr and Mrs Leiper of 20 and 22 Burnham Road. The prize for best-decorated business in both towns went to Mr Arthur Dormer of Highbridge DIY.

Cllr Clayton told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was another challenging year to separate the numerous wonderful entries in the Christmas lights competition. We spent many a happy hour covering all the streets in Burnham and Highbridge in order that not a single entry was missed. I have to say the standard of entries is going up and up with some truly magical displays.”
